November
3 panels, each 24" x 60"
I made November my first summer at The Quilted
Gallery in Rocky Neck Art Colony. Being surrounded by artists,
most of whom were painters, I heard a lot about the different
schools of art. So I decided to do a quilted work that would be
"impressionistic." I call these panels November since
the "sky" color reminds me of a cold November sky. I
used four shades of the same Hoffman leaf print for my backgrounds
and I think of them as sky, dry leaves, water, and wet ground.
So finally my idea was as if you were looking out French doors
at a late fall scene. But I have had people come into the gallery
and look at these panels and say "That is the ocean breaking
over the rocks." So I guess I suceeded in making an impressionistic
piece that allows people to see different things. |
