Fussy Cutting
Fussy-cutting is the isolating
of a particular motif in a print and cutting it exactly the same
several times so when the pieces are sewn together a kaleidoscopic
or mirror image effect is achieved. I ususally use border prints
for my fussy-cutting. This can be seen in my Kaleidoscope Art
Cards, my sampler, I Wonder Why People Call Me a Perfectionist?,
and Blue Mountain Majesty.
I also like to fussy-cut Mariner’s Compasses
by drafting them so that four or eight pieces come together in
the center to make a kaleidoscopic design.
